About us - From the creator
After searching the media landscape over it became apparent to those at Distracted Masses that it is impossible to discern the mis and disinformation from reality, and therefore this publication will be moving in a new direction - toward fictional futurism reporting and reality manifestation writings. Yes, it seems like a big change, but because I found myself so entrenched in this illusory world the mass media has created I realized it doesn't really matter if I write fiction or not, and that through pseudo fiction I can manifest a much more interesting and peaceful world than any mass media, social psychologist, or information operationalist could ever produce for me. I still intend on providing more media analysis and book reviews of the various literatures I run across, mostly on the internet and public library, but I will be taking a much more distracted focus now. Please provide suggestions as to which media I should analyze & critique, future data sources I can find, people I should talk to, or places I should go. Thanks
- Distracted Masses - AND NOW SOME FICTION . . . Distracted Masses is a character from the future manifested through the collective consciousness of those reading George Orwell's Nineteen-Eighty-Four. Neither male nor female, the fictional Distracted Masses character is an androgynous representation of those distracted people who have become mentally numb to the reality of the day. He/she/it/they is/are an individual(s) acting as an organization, a corporation, and unaffiliated groups of both the dead and undead. They are the future potential outcomes of the Citizen's United ruling which gives corporations the same rights as, and often even more rights than, actual human beings. These futuristic manifestations of the collective conscious have accumulated into a single entity which simultaneously live in the past, present, and future. Bordering between the real and the unreal, Distracted Masses lives within the internet on Facebook, Twitter, Newsvine, and other social media sites. The almost real, but mostly fictional character can be manifested by any observer capable of collapsing their own wave function. Simply turn, look, and see - they're all there. Right in front of you, clicking and tapping away on their little devices helping them to continuously stay forever distracted from reality. They are, we are, and I am the Distracted Masses.
